If you’ve ever roamed the halls of Medical Center Hospital, you undoubtedly know Anita McDowell. For more than 40 years, her face, her work and her kindness have been a staple at MCH. But in 2008, she was the one needing care as she was diagnosed with breast cancer following a yearly checkup. Her doctors explained that if it wasn’t for her yearly exam, her cancer would have progressed to a dangerous Stage Four.
After a strong battle, McDowell declared victory. She has been cancer free for more than ten years, giving thanks to the staff and doctors who cared for her during her fight.
“They took and still take wonderful care of me,” McDowell said.
As a nurse AND a patient, McDowell knows the importance of having a yearly checkup.
“Detection is key, and you should have your yearly checkup. It can save your life,” McDowell said.
Through it all, she continues to provide care with kindness and comfort.
