Women's Imaging

Breast Health Diagnostics

The American College of Radiology further recognizes the Center for Women’s Imaging as a Breast Imaging Center for Excellence. This center is accredited in mammography, breast ultrasound, and stereotactic biopsy.

How Does a Mammogram Work?

Mammography utilizes low-energy X-rays to image breast tissue. During your mammogram, your breast will be positioned by the technologist and compressed between 2 plates attached to the mammogram unit. Compression is needed to keep the breast from moving and makes a uniform layer of breast tissue. While compression is generally uncomfortable, it is required to obtain the clearest images possible and only lasts a few seconds. It is best to schedule your mammogram at the time during your menstrual cycle when your breasts are least tender.

Please do not wear deodorant, talcum powder, or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of your exam. Please wear a two-piece outfit as you will be asked to remove all clothing from the waist up.

Your Care Team

The radiologist involved in your care is fellowship-trained in mammography; the technologists have completed a rigorous course of education and are nationally certified and registered, specifically in mammography. Our technologists work closely with your radiologist to ensure the most accurate result from your examination.

A written physician’s order and an appointment are required for breast imaging procedures and bone density exams. Should you have questions about your specific exam, our mammographers are glad to provide you with information. Please call (432) 640-4208 for further information.

Free 40th Birthday Mammograms
